These snails are superb choices for planted tanks - as featured in the September 2007 issue of Practical Fishkeeping Magazine!
They will not eat live aquarium plants. However, nerite snails are voracious algae eaters in the aquarium and help to keep plant leaves and ornaments clean.
Maximum size of 1.25 inches.
The nerite snails we sell at Snail Shop are true freshwater nerites. Although they may be able to withstand short periods of time in brackish water, this is not recommended.
Nerites have a very complex breeding cycle. This complexity means that these snails will not reproduce in the home aquarium.
Nerite snails rely heavily on algae and leafy green vegetables to sustain them. Regularly offer sliced cucumber, cooked spinach*, corgette and blanched lettuce to keep them in optimum health.
(*Remove uneaten vegetables after 12 hours to prevent stagnation of water.)
Feeding - Algae, algae & variety wafers cooked leafy green vegetables
Health Additives - SnailStrong Liquid Calcium.
pH - 7.0 - 8.5 (less than 7.0 and shells corrode)
Temperature Tolerance - 18-28 Degrees Celcius
Preferable Temperature - 24-26 Degrees Celcius
Stocking rate - One snail per 2.5 gallons
Do NOT keep snails with loaches (sucking loaches are ok), pufferfish, crabs, crayfish or large aggressive fish as they will kill snails.
These snails are not captive bred by Snail Shop.
